Sandra cotton nerren
Sandra Cotton Nerren was a self-taught, working class artist we call a folk-artist or a primitive artist. She was the youngest of 13 children born and raised to farmers on the Mississippi Delta.
Sandra's work, with her limited schooling and years of working hard alongside other hired workers, brings out realism, nostalgia and memories which are brought to light not only in farm life, the rural countryside and community, but to mankind.
In Memoriam
Sandra quietly passed away in December of 2020 and is missed, not only for her art and her love of mankind, but also for her gentle outlook on life. Not having much while growing up, she made the most of her talents and abilities by believing in herself, treating others with a gentle kindness, and never complaining about her circumstances. She painted what she remembered and witnessed. Her simple stories of beauty and joy lives on in her paintings. A true American treasure.
